The fifth busiest airport in the world, L.A.X. (or Los Angeles International Airport), services the surrounding Los Angeles region and wider Californian state, as well as being a major hub for several major American airlines.  The airport has nine terminals which are connected by an airport shuttle bus, making it easier for passengers in transit to navigate the vast complex.  Terminal 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 serve mainly North American airlines, whilst Terminal 2 and 9 (Terminal 9 is normally referred to as the Tom Bradley International Terminal - TBIT) are the docking locations of international airlines such as Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, Emirates, Singapore Airlines and Air France.  The airport's passenger drop-off and collection point is located on World Way, which is reachable from the south and north on the Interstate 405 (San Diego Freeway) if you exit at intersection 45 or 47; or from the east on Interstate 105 (Glenn Anderson Freeway) if you depart at intersection 1B.  The famous road-bridge that crosses over the top of one of the LAX runways is accessible from West Century Boulevard or the 1B Glenn Anderson turnpike.

Car rental is certainly possible from LAX, though there are no car hire desks within the terminals.  The car hire companies have telephone communication points located in each of the arrival halls so that incoming passengers can call to be picked up and taken to the off-airport hire locations.  Although there are close to forty car hire companies offering services at or around LAX, there are only ten with shuttle bus services - Budget, Avis, Alamo, Dollar, Advantage, National, Fox, Thrifty, Payless, Enterprise and Hertz.
